Canada is always open to seeking new programs to promote economic development and employment by attracting investors, entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals who have the skills and abilities required to contribute to our economy and who will be able to integrate into Canadian society.

Start-up Visa Program

This program is set to target immigrant entrepreneurs with the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada which can be innovative, help create jobs for Canadians and that can compete on a global scale.

  1. Have a qualifying business which means you created a business that meets the following conditions.

  • At the time you get a commitment from a designated organization each applicant holds 10% or more of the voting rights attached to all shares of the corporation outstanding at that time (up to 5 people can apply as owners) AND applicants and the designated organization jointly hold more than 50% of the total voting rights attached to all shares of the corporation outstanding at that time

  • At the time you receive your permanent residence the company will be managed and incorporated in Canada and an essential part of the operations will be taken care here as well.

2. Have a letter of support from a designated organization which can be:

  • A VentureCapital funds- you should get an investement of at least $200.000 CAD from one of these groups.

  • Angel Investors- in this case you should have one or more with a minimum investment of $75.000 CAD.

  • Business Incubators- You should be accepted to one of this programs meet the language requirements, and have enough money to settle and live in Canada before you make money from your business

3. Meet the language requirements

  • The ability to communicate and work in English, French or both languages will help your business succeed in Canada. You must meet the minimum level of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in either English or French in all of these four areas: speaking, reading, listening and writing.

Self-Employed Person Program

To qualify as a self-employed person, an individual must be willing and able to support him/herself and any dependents with self-employed income as a farmer, athlete, or artisan.At the moment the farmer stream is closed. To qualify as a self-employed person, you must have two years of relevant experience and show that you intend to become self-employed in Canada.

You must also score at least 35 points on a selection grid designed to determine whether you will be able to make an economic contribution to Canada.
