The CANADIAN EXPERIENCE CLASS is one of the Categories in which most of the students who had a postgraduate work permit will fall into, also foreign workers under LMIA, NAFTA and OPEN WORK PERMIT HOLDERS.

It is very important to know that if you are looking into applying under the Canadian experience class , you should plan ahead of time. Keep in mind that this is a very competitive category and that you must meet the requirements fully.

Requirements for Canadian Experience Class

Here are the minimum requirements under this category. Keep in mind these are a MUST.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before you apply. This experience must be gained in Canada with the proper authorization. Make sure you understand this part, there are many cases in which students do not know how to properly use their Postgraduate Work Permit and this ends in a bad outcome, make sure you assess your case especially if you are planning to Immigrate with your family.

Familiarize yourself with the following:

  • Full Time: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1-year full-time (1560 hours)

  • Part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1-year full-time (1560 hours)

YOUR POSITION:

You have to pay close attention to your position as it plays a very important role in your application. Your position will be defined by a NOC Code (National Occupation Classification)

You must show that the duties set out in theNOC you will use are the ones you will comply with, keep in mind that an Immigration Officer is not a Civil Engineer or would understand in detail each position, that is why he/she will go by the guidelines set out. No match no catch!

Self-employment and work experience gained while you were a full-time student (for example, on a co-op work term) do not count under this program.

EDUCATION

For this program, there is no education requirement. However, because you will be using the Express Entry system to submit a profile you want to earn points for your education.

a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree, OR

an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report produced by an agency approved by CIC to show your education is equal to Canadian education standards.

LANGUAGE

  • Meet the minimum language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 for NOC 0 or A jobs OR Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 for NOC B jobs, and

  • Take a language test approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) that shows you meet the level for speaking, listening, reading and writing (IELTS, CELPIP, TEF CANADA)

  • You will have to submit proof that you meet the Language requirements by providing your test results for English or French. If you have already taken a test, your results must not be more than two years old.
