Top 10 Immigration Questions

Expert answers for your process.

How much money do I need to immigrate?

It depends on the program. For Express Entry, a single applicant typically needs around $14,000 CAD. Families need more. However, with a valid job offer or Canadian Experience Class (CEC), you might be exempt.

Do I need a job offer?

No. Express Entry is points-based. While a job offer helps, many candidates are invited based solely on Age, Education, and Language skills.

Is there an age limit?

Technically no, but points decrease after age 30. If you are over 40, we recommend Business Immigration or Study pathways.

What English level do I need?

Generally CLB 7 (IELTS 6.0). French speakers have a huge advantage with lower cutoff scores currently.

Can I bring my family?

Yes! You can include your spouse and dependent children (under 22). Spouses often get Open Work Permits.

Do I need to validate my degree (ECA)?

Yes. You need an ECA report (from WES or similar) to prove your degree is equivalent to a Canadian one.

Can I work as a tourist?

No. You cannot work without a permit. You can look for jobs, but you must apply for a permit before starting work.

How long does it take?
  • Express Entry: 6-8 months
  • Study Permit: 8-12 weeks
  • Sponsorship: ~12 months
