CANADA STREAMLINES THE PATHWAY FOR INTERNATIONAL TEACHERS WITH A NEW INITIATIVE
Canada has taken a significant step to address educator shortages and support skilled newcomers with the launch of a new initiative: Pathways to Teach Canada. Developed in partnership with World Education Services (WES), this program is designed to facilitate the credential recognition and integration of foreign-trained teachers into Canadian classrooms.
This comprehensive initiative introduces a centralized platform for credential evaluation and language assessment, simplifying the certification process for internationally educated teachers. The system is available across nine participating provinces and territories, ensuring broad access and consistency in requirements. Through a single online portal, qualified candidates who have completed formal teacher education programs abroad can now begin their path to certification with greater ease and efficiency.
Pathways to Teach Canada responds to the growing demand for educators across the country, particularly in sectors like K-12 public education, early childhood education, and special needs support. The program not only accelerates the integration process for skilled newcomers but also helps provinces meet critical workforce needs in the education sector.
This initiative aligns with broader national immigration priorities. In 2025, Canada introduced a new Education category under the Express Entry system, recognizing teaching professionals as a key part of the country’s long-term strategy to build a sustainable and inclusive labour force.
