Canada Strengthens Youth Mobility Programs

Between September 6 and October 10, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted several new draws under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program, inviting 4,965 young professionals to apply for open work permits.

The IEC continues to be a cornerstone of Canada’s international engagement strategy—offering young people the opportunity to live, travel, and work in Canada while gaining valuable professional experience.

Details from the Draws

As of October 10, 2025, 39,279 candidates were registered in the IEC pools.
The top participating countries included:

  • South Korea: 1,112 invitations

  • Australia: 719 invitations

  • France: 678 invitations

  • Germany: 497 invitations

  • Ireland: 432 invitations

Other countries such as Italy, Spain, and New Zealand also saw significant participation, demonstrating the program’s global reach.

A Pathway Beyond Temporary Work

While primarily designed as a cultural exchange, the IEC often becomes the first step toward permanent residency.
Participants who gain Canadian work experience through IEC are better positioned to qualify for programs like Express Entry or the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)—a key advantage for those seeking long-term settlement.

Empowering Global Youth Mobility

With more than 99,000 invitations issued in 2025, the IEC program continues to foster cultural exchange, professional development, and lasting international partnerships.
