IRCC INVITED THE FIRST IEC CANDIDATES OF 2026

IRCC Kicks Off 2026 IEC Season with Over 12,000 Invitations

The wait is officially over for young travelers and professionals! Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted the first rounds of invitations for the 2026 International Experience Canada (IEC) season. Between January 1 and January 23, 2026, Canada invited 12,693 young foreign nationals to apply for an open work permit, marking one of the most proactive season openings in the program's history.

Detailed Invitation Statistics by Country

The first weeks of the season saw significant activity across various partner nations. As of the January 23 update, the breakdown of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) issued included:

  • United Kingdom: 3,354 ITAs

  • France: 2,108 ITAs

  • Republic of Korea: 2,054 ITAs

  • Australia: 1,304 ITAs

  • Ireland: 1,100 ITAs

  • Italy: 691 ITAs

  • Spain: 433 ITAs

  • Taiwan: 287 ITAs

Other countries, including Costa Rica (27 ITAs), the Czech Republic (172 ITAs), and Belgium (370 ITAs), also saw their first participants selected. Currently, 35,567 candidates remain in the pools, highlighting the strong global demand for this year's quotas.

Strategic Value for Future Immigration

Participating in the IEC 2026 season is a strategic move for those considering a long-term future in Canada:

  • CEC Pathway: Time worked in Canada under an IEC permit helps candidates qualify for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under Express Entry.

  • Open Work Permit Flexibility: The Working Holiday stream allows participants to work for almost any employer, providing a unique opportunity to network and establish a career.

  • Quota Momentum: With over 12,000 invitations issued in just three weeks, IRCC is moving rapidly to fill the 2026 quotas, which are currently estimated at roughly 47,000 spots across all categories.

Now is the Time to Enter the Pool

The first rounds of 2026 confirm that early entry is a major advantage. While the IEC operates on a random selection basis, being in the pool from the start ensures you are included in every weekly round for your country, maximizing your chances of selection before quotas are filled.
