EXPRESS ENTRY UPDATE: CANADA HOLDS BACK-TO-BACK PNP AND CEC DRAWS, INVITING OVER 2,500 CANDIDATES
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held two Express Entry draws within 24 hours of each other this week — first targeting Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, then Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates. Together, the two rounds issued 2,511 Invitations to Apply (ITAs), continuing a busy pace of activity for the program in 2026.

As of July 19, 2026, there were 231,533 candidate profiles registered in the Express Entry pool. So far in 2026, IRCC has issued 99,612 invitations across 40 draws, including 6,450 through PNP-specific rounds.
Draw #427: Provincial Nominee Program
On July 20, IRCC invited 511 PNP candidates, with the cut-off score climbing to 744 points — 36 points higher than the previous PNP-targeted round. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to a candidate's Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which is why PNP-specific draws consistently carry much higher cut-offs than program-wide rounds. The higher threshold here reflects strong competition among nominees rather than any change to the scoring system itself. Candidates with additional CRS-boosting factors — strong language scores, Canadian work experience, or a spouse's credentials — continue to have the clearest path to an ITA in PNP-only rounds.
Draw #428: Canadian Experience Class
Just a day later, on July 21, IRCC issued a much larger round of 2,000 ITAs to CEC candidates, with a cut-off score of 516 points — essentially flat, down just one point from the prior CEC-targeted draw. CEC draws typically invite candidates based on Canadian work experience alone, without requiring a provincial nomination, which is why the cut-off score sits far lower than in PNP rounds. The high volume of invitations (2,000) signals that IRCC continues to prioritize candidates who already have Canadian work experience as a pathway to permanent residence.

Taken together, these two draws show IRCC pursuing two different candidate profiles in the same week: those with a provincial nomination, and those with recent Canadian work experience. If you fall into either group and haven't yet received an invitation, it's worth reviewing your profile to confirm every eligible point is accounted for — language test results, education credential assessments, and recent work experience can all shift your ranking. IRCC has not announced dates for the next PNP or CEC-specific rounds, but based on the 2026 pattern, draws in both categories have generally followed within two to four weeks of one another.
