FIVE NORTHWEST MANITOBA COMMUNITIES LAUNCH JOINT IMMIGRATION INITIATIVE FOR SKILLED WORKERS
Five communities in Northwest Manitoba have joined forces, under the guidance of the Province of Manitoba, to launch the Northwest Manitoba Immigration Initiative (NWMII) — a new regional pathway aimed at recruiting and retaining skilled workers to meet both immediate and long-term labour shortages across the region.
Who's Involved
The initiative brings together the Town of The Pas, the Rural Municipality of Kelsey (including Cranberry Portage and Wanless), the City of Flin Flon, the Town of Swan River, and the Town of Snow Lake. While the program's goal is to strengthen the regional workforce as a whole, applicants are welcome to live and work in any of the five participating communities.
Which Sectors Are Eligible
NWMII is accepting applications from skilled workers in the following sectors:
Healthcare and Social Assistance
Sales and Service Occupations
Occupations in Manufacturing and Utilities
Transport and Warehousing
Automotive Repair and Maintenance
Construction, Processing, and Manufacturing (Infrastructure)
Natural and Applied Science and Related Occupations
Education
How the Process Works
Applicants are selected based on their skills and how well they align with the labour market needs of local employers in the region. Successful candidates receive a Community Letter of Endorsement — a recommendation from the initiative in support of a provincial nomination application through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP).
Important to understand: A Community Letter of Endorsement is a recommendation only. NWMII does not have the authority to approve applications — all decisions on invitations to apply and possible nominations rest solely with the Province of Manitoba.
Application Timeline
The first intake under NWMII is currently open and will close on July 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM CST. According to the initiative, this closure is for program maintenance, and additional intakes will be announced at a later date.
